C&L Distributing, a fifth-generation family-owned business headquartered in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, is making waves with its latest expansion into Northeastern Minnesota. In September 2023, C&L Distributing began construction on a state-of-the-art 22,000-square-foot distribution facility in the Cloquet Business Park. This new regional hub will serve as a key point of distribution for over 3,500 products, including Anheuser-Busch In-Bev brands, local and national craft beers, imports, non-alcoholic beverages, wine, and spirits.
The Cloquet facility will streamline the distribution process by receiving products daily from C&L’s Sauk Rapids headquarters, ensuring customers receive their orders within 24 hours. Currently staffed with 25 full- and part-time employees, the facility has attracted a strong pool of talent, ensuring high-quality service for the region's growing demand.
C&L Distributing has a long and proud history, owned and operated by brothers Tom and Joe Dick, with the next generation, Dan Dick, actively involved. The company's roots go back to their great-grandfather, who delivered beer by horse-drawn wagon. Over the years, C&L has grown from offering 200 products to more than 3,500, serving over 2,600 retailers across 35 counties from seven distribution locations, including Hibbing, Alexandria, Grand Rapids, Hutchinson, Brainerd, and now Cloquet.
"Our business is built on relationships," shared Tom Dick. "I’ve learned that if you don’t love this business, you won’t last. It’s 24/7, and you need to be involved. You can’t just hire people to run it—you have to be hands-on."
